Work and play

Wow! I'm in a desperate need for an update.

Where to begin, where to begin? Well, I need to vent about my new job, so let's start there.

Today, I didn't take my 15 minute break, so I thought I would be able to leave 15 minutes early. However, when I went in to tell my supervisor, she said you have to take your break after 4 hours of work; it's part of the labor laws. For some reason this really made me mad. How am I supposed to know that you have to take a break according to the law? They just sort of said, "Oh yeah, you have a 15 minute break." I didn't know there were rules on how to take it. Also the other day, I was slightly reprimanded for this email I wrote. I talked to her about not coming in certain days because of the Chicago trip and she said that sounded fine. I just had to write her an email. I said something to the effect that because of my trip, I would not be in on these certain days. Later she told me I should have written the email as a question requesting time off. She did say that she understood that we had already discussed it. (That's why I was only slightly reprimanded). Also for future jobs I should make any planned vacations a part of my acceptance package because the employer could technically deny my request. I understand she was trying to be helpful, but it just rubbed me the wrong way. Now, I feel like I have to watch every move I make in order not to be offensive or step on people's toes. One more thing that only bothers me slightly, but I understand its importance. Part of my job is typing ticket information into the computer. The woman training me has to review my entries before I can move on to the next ticket. It makes you feel like a baby and kind of incompetent. But that will happen in any new job.

I haven't gone out much since the summer until this thanksgiving break. I went out Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday night. Wednesday I went to Margarita's. After that night, I realized how thankful I am for real friends who love and appreciate me. Friday I went to Shenanigans for Latina night. I danced with this one guy who was twirling and spinning me around. It was sooooooo fun. I really enjoyed dancing with someone who knew what he was doing. I also hung out with these two girls (one I graduated with but didn't really know in high school and another who is my brother's age). They were super nice and fun. Saturday night I hung out with my friend Erin; we grew up in the same church. This girl is too hot, and she really knows how to have a good time. The moment we got to Margarita's she wanted to do a shot. I ended up doing 3 shots with her that night: two red snappers and a Jaeger bomb. [Speaking of shots, Aimer bought me one called Prom Queen Wet Dreams. Ummm...it was absolutely delicious.] Also, one of the best things is that she's dating these two guys who know about each other. She tells guys that she's not looking for a boyfriend, she dates other people, and if they don't like it, they can hit the road. She's great! Later that night we went to Zach's where there were a lot of people I recognized from high school.

New Job

I've been working for HALO for almost 2 months, and I must say I dislike it. It's really frustrating cold calling people and trying to get them to join. However, today, I recruited a member ALL BY MYSELF, which was pretty satisfying.

Anyway, I interviewed for a data entry job with the Huntsville Municipal Court. I met this woman at a church I was invited to by a high school acquaintance. She told me about the part-time position because she's the Court Coordinator. I applied and had an interview. I thought it went pretty smoothly. In fact I was proud of myself for saying I was planning on maybe going to law school in the next 5 years, and that this position would expose me to a professional environment that would aid me in my decision. Also, I had to do this activity right before the interview in which I had to put some papers in alphabetical order. One of the sheets was cut off and you couldn't read the name clearly. When I gave her the file, I mentioned the discrepancy. I was pleased with myself because it showed I was willing to ask for help if I was unsure of what to do.

In conclusion, I was offered the job! YEAH! I think I'll like it better because of the environment not to mention it pays more. I start November 21. I was scared about telling Kyle, but he took it very well, which means I can leave on good terms. The fact that I've given him and the others 2 weeks notice plays in my favor.

I had minor conflicts about whether I should take the job or not because of my anticipation of leaving in February for the Peace Corps. I felt guilty for not mentioning it in the interview, but at the same time February is not a definite date. I've already seen how mentioning it has gone against me. And, you can see which side won out.

In other news, my cousin Nda Uchechi is visiting the states from Australia. She's my cousin's, Nda Nnanna, younger sister. She'll be spending next week with us. Then she'll be returning to Nigeria to get married.

Random Stuff

I haven't written in a while, so here's what's randomly been going on.

1. Jr. got a new car. It's a 2006 Scion, and it's very nice. Unfortunately it is a standard, so I don't know how to drive it--not that he would let me anyway. It looks bluish black and inside it has blue floor lights.

2. Last weekend, my sisters and I went to Mr. Gattis, and we rented Halloween movies, The Exorcist and The Little Vampire.

3. At my job with HALO, the real estate company that HALO is based out of fired its receptionist and its office manager. Now they've asked me to help answer phones.

4. I'm going to go up to Dallas to visit Laura either Nov. 11-13 or Dec. 2-4.

5. I finished reading Pinocchio in Italian and now I'm starting La locandiera (the female innkeeper).
